This quilt is about 24 by 32 inches. The background is pieced and the water is highlighted a little with paint, the shell is painted, appliqued, and then quilted with decorative stitches, the coral is free-motion thread painted, and the small fish, small shell, star fish and jelly fish are all machine embroidered. Her hair is embellished with silver metallic thread in free motion and the quilt is entirely free-motion quilted on my domestic Bernina. I added hot fix crystals to her hair and some of the fantasy seaweeds cut from the Hoffman challenge fabric. It was fun to make. The photo is not very good (it's really nice and square, and the crystals aren't quite so bold) but it's the only one I have. The quilt is currently traveling with the 2010 Hoffman Challenge show.
