Michelle's Thick N Thin Log Cabin

LauraTH

This beauty was one of my more frustrating quilts. She wanted a simple Panto, Rosie, and the thread she selected looked like it had been dyed to match her fabric. On about the 3rd pass, my machine decided to let the thread walk out of the tensioner and I suddenly had about a 16" x length of quilt section with eyelashes and horrible stitches. Each point had this nice little knot and the fabric was easy to damage. I worked and worked on my frogging, but it just seemed to keep growing, the area that needed to be torn out. I can't tell you how many hours I took stitches out and it about got me down. I just finished requilting it last week. The poor woman probably thinks I have lost it or sold it to someone for a higher price! Joking aside, I decided that I'm not charging her because of the extraordinary delay and minor damage to the fabric.

BTW, the cause was an incorrect spring on the main tensioner of my machine. I purchased it used and although they had gone over it and performed a complete maintenance, this was not something they would have found in a normal run off when they were done. I had been on the phone with my dealer multiple times over this and I finally decided on my own to change the spring. What I found was one that was too thin and had too little tension. When I replaced it, the spring I was sold as a replacement was the incorrect size for the model year I own, so I had to reorder one. Once I got it and put it on, it was like getting the machine I thought I should have all along. I haven't had a problem since. Of course, I didn't dare requilt this one until I was absolutely sure that my machine would work correctly!
