A Godly Woman, Study of Proverbs, Ch 31, January 2009
I wanted to do something spiritual, yet encouraging and uplifting. What I found in the Bible was precedence for a working woman! The woman described by the Bible in the 31st chapter of Proverbs is one who works outside the home and has servants who tend to her household and children. She buys real estate, sells her wares in the market, and she basically brings home the bacon while her man sits at the town gate and discusses philosophy and politics with the other elders/respected men of the community. In other words, her husband is the equivalent of a State Senator or Representative while she is the breadwinner. Wow! And I always thought that a woman was only to tend to her family while the husband did the hunting and bring home the food. Seems that women have a lot of roles and we have lost sight of what gifts we were given and expected to use. I used to feel guilty for being an engineer and having a career...now I see that my talent in the sciences and arts was given to me to use to its fullest, whether solving a problem with manufacturing or making a quilt. What a neat realization.
